I screamed at the crowd before me.
The cheering was loud.
It was for me.
But their eyes were far. Their hands pointed elsewhere.
How? I am the only person on the stage.
“See me! How do you cheer for me, and not look at me?”
“I have a story here for you to read. See me!”
“I have a song to sing to you. See me.”
“I have the best poetry for you. See me.”
I looked at all the faces,
Happy for me and not of me.
I looked behind the stage.
The rope was still suspended in the ceiling.
I touched it,
It felt warm.
I felt seen.
“I know now, they would look in my direction, and they would see me.”
